What test can detect autoimmune type 1 diabetes early?

An autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) test, also known as autoantibody screening, is how T1D is detected.¹

Your immune system usually makes antibodies to fight off things like bacteria and viruses.⁴ But in autoimmune T1D, the immune system produces autoantibodies, which may indicate that the immune system is mistakenly attacking a person’s own cells⁵

During autoantibody screening, specific autoantibodies can be tested to determine whether a person has or does not have autoimmune T1D,^6–8 or to see a person’s risk of developing the condition (if one autoantibody is detected).⁸ Autoantibodies can appear long before symptoms develop⁹
